The skin serves many functions throughout our lifetimes and it is exposed to many elements. It changes dramatically as we grow and age- fine lines, wrinkles, discolorations, sun damage, laxity, dry skin, rosacea, acne scarring, facial veins/ vessels, and age spots. With so many different options available, let one of our cosmetic surgeons evaluate your skin and plan an appropriate skin care

Non-surgical Skin Rejuvenation
Dr. Sterling Baker, Dr. Erin Holloman and Dr. William Ehrlich provide a wide variety of skin care options. Some of our most useful and effective options for improvement in superficial wrinkles and age spots are our IPL lasers and chemical peels. The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser, otherwise known as a light facial is an excellent treatment with little to no discomfort and no downtime. Packages of precision skin peels along with one of the newest in-office procedures, Vibraderm (replacing our microdermabrasion), are also available to improve skin texture, reduce pigment discolorations, and soften wrinkles. We also have several non-ablative (no downtime) lasers in the office for vascular lesions, red and blue vessels on the face or torso. Finally, every patient should have a basic foundation of skin care. The Doctors are pleased to be able to recommend several medically based products with proven ingredients, including sunblocks, anti-aging formulas, makeup, cleansers, toners, and moisturizers. Our product lines come from scientifically-based companies, including SkinMedica™, TiSilc®, Abella™, and Procyte®.

Surgical Skin Rejuvenation
Many patients are ready to "go for the gusto" and opt for laser facial skin resurfacing. This is an operative procedure that can accomplish many goals at once, including, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing out scars, removing discolorations, and tightening the overall skin tone. It is performed by one of our surgeons with the appropriate laser, either the Carbon Dioxide or Erbium laser, or a combination of both. With a pulsed beam from the laser, the surgeon actually vaporizes the outermost layer of skin in a carefully controlled fashion. Laser light penetrates to a very precise, controlled depth, making the procedure relatively safe, bloodless and predictable.

Post-procedure discomfort is usually minor, requiring little or no medication. However, because pain is highly individual, we will make sure that you are comfortable after your resurfacing. Procedures are done on an outpatient basis. Postoperative care is usually limited to ice packs, bland ointments and cleaning the skin several times a day. A few days after laser facial resurfacing, weeping will occur as the skin rebuilds from the bottom up and new collagen is formed by the skin. It will then go through a period of crusting for a few days. After the crusting is gone, the fresh new skin will have a pink quality, which will fade within two to six weeks. This can be easily camouflaged by make-up, which can usually be applied within four to seven days, depending on your skin's response to the treatment.  Most patients like to plan for a week to 10 days of recovery before going back to work or resuming a normal social schedule.
